Where do I even start. Should I start with Kevin Newman having a FOUR hit game? or maybe I should start with having a visiting team hit 2 MOONSHOTS onto the train tracks. Wait, I think starting with Corey Dickerson getting 2 cheap doubles off slow outfield play may be a good spot to begin with. If you can’t tell, it doesn’t matter where I start this blog off… Its going to be a tough one to read.
This team is 50-30, leading the west and has the chance to send SEVEN players to the all-star game. Now a 1st inning infield single and a homer to Josh Bell, not anything to be upset at. Sometimes the ball doesn’t go your way and you end up making a poor pitch. No big deal, keep trucking. You give up two in the top frame but you come back with a leadoff missile by George Spinger. (great to have you back) With that being said, the wheels just fell off the wagon, and boy did they fall off fast.
Lets talk about the things that stood out to me. The shortstop of the Pirates, Kevin Newman is swinging the bat with a purpose, that man is on a tirade and our pitchers were just feeding into it. (excluding Tyler White who we will discuss later.) Next, Corey Dickerson being able to take second base twice on lazy outfield play is disgusting to watch, but understandable. When you’re getting your teeth kicked in by a team that isn’t even close to your level of play, you may get bored in that big outfield too. Moving on, what in the world is our base running? Altuve and Chirinos were no where near on the same page for that 1st and 3rd situation and it actually hurt to view. Lastly, Tyler White, I hope AJ Hinch got a call from the guys in the front office or baseball ops and was told to put Tyler White into pitch because we are about to option him down to triple A. I know we need him right now while Correa in on the shelf but man oh man do I hope he is the first player down when we bring back Correa.
Thats the Houston Homer recap of the June 26th, 2019 home game against the Pittsburg Pirates. Piss poor game and I hope this team can get out of the down stretch that they have found themselves in as of late. We, as fans will keep our heads high and keep rocking with the team. Win or Lose, we will ride the train.
